Meraki is a greek word that means to put soul, creativity, and something of yourself into your work.

welcome to meraki

In 2014, the staff at Griot Arts saw a very big need in our community to help our youth prepare for the workforce and get a job in order to provide for themselves and their families. At Griot, we believe that all people were created to do meaningful, life giving work. Our belief is that the ability for young men and women to be able to sustain meaningful work throughout their adulthood is a key component to help address the cycle of generational poverty in Coahoma County and the Mississippi Delta.

Meraki Roasting Company

Every day ambitious young people come to work at Meraki Coffee Roasters to learn to roast coffee while building skills that will help them come closer to finding their God-given calling. While we are making excellent coffee, we teach young people in Clarksdale what it means to work with the Meraki ideals: to put soul, creativity, and love into their work. Through small batch roasting, Meraki Coffee Roasters produces excellent coffee. Small-batch allows us to have the flexibility to innovate on roasting techniques, to experiment liberally with taste, and focus on every bag upholding our high quality standards including transparency about the suppliers with which we work. By buying Meraki Coffee, you are not only getting high-quality, freshly roasted coffee, but you are also changing the lives of many young people in the Mississippi Delta.

Volunteer at Meraki

We are always looking for people with business skills, or just a passion for coffee and youth, to volunteer at Meraki. We hold classes each Tuesday from 5:00 pm- 6:00pm. If you are interested in teaching a topic having to do with business and soft skills please contact us!

Join the Meraki Cooperative

We are actively seeking businesses to join the Meraki Cooperative and help give our participants more experience in the working world. Businesses would offer part time internships to participants in the program. These extra part time jobs help participants make more money in order to provide for their family and save for their future. Please contact us if you'd like to host a Meraki Intern at your business!
